‘People need nature,’ says Palisoc during U-Wide Earth Day Celeb

Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day to spread awareness regarding its importance and the need to protect and conserve our natural resources. This day is an opportunity to bring millions to connect and discuss solutions and more importantly involve the next generation proactively in creating ways and activities to nurture our nature.

This year the theme of this special event is “Restore Our Earth”. It strongly reverberates that our planet needs to be under the tutelage of ‘green-warriors’ who passionately cares for the sake of the next generation.

“Earth Day has made positive impacts on the environment globally, but it can also play a significant role on local levels as well. Keeping the environment clean, safe and enjoyable for all of its inhabitants is a full-time job that anyone can participate in,” emphasized Dr. Dexter R. Buted, University President during his opening message.

As an institution that embodies social and environmental responsiveness as part of its core values, Pangasinan State University through the office of the Student Services and Alumni Affairs have conducted a University-Wide Earth Day event with invigorating activities to fuel the ardor of PSUnians to help nurture nature.

The schedule of activities are as follows: April 23 – On-the-spot Essay and Poem Writing Contests and on April 30 – Slogan-making and Extemporaneous Speaking Contests. The awarding and closing ceremony will be happen during the latter date.

One of the highlights of the event is the keynote message of Ms. Raysel Ivarem P. Palisoc, HS Biology Teacher at Miriam College. Ms. Palisoc focused on the history of the Earth Day celebration in cognizance with the theme, “Restore our Earth” and the United Nations decade on ecosystem restoration.

“People need nature. We only have one planet, one home. For the future generation, the Earth Day today is a time of great challenge for the environmental community to combat cynicism of climate change deniers, etc.,” added Ms. Palisoc./jjdz
