Meeting of Minds: PSU strengthens ties with the Provincial Government

A momentous event unfolded on Thursday morning as two stalwarts of great leadership engaged in a fruitful discussion on the advancement of tertiary education in the province.

Dubbed as ‘Meeting of Minds’, the milestone meeting between the Pangasinan State University led by Dr. Dexter R. Buted and the Provincial Government of Pangasinan led by Governor Ramon Guico III, yielded positive results from both institutions.

Dr. Buted led a walkthrough of PSU’s journey as an academic institution that is characterized by numerous successes. He presented to the Governor the inventory of academic programs, faculty profile, enrolment data, board topnotchers, scholarship programs, linkages, management system, research and extension program and quality assurance, among others.

“This is the power of a dream. We get inspiration from everyone. We were able to revive and transform the institution as to what it is now, – one of only 20 SUCs in the country to achieve SUC Level IV status and the first and only Higher Education Institution to be granted the Philippine Quality Award Level III recognition,” Dr. Buted said.

During the Thursday meeting, Gov. Guico, who is also an educator, said he was amazed by the successes achieved by PSU and continued to congratulate the whole team.

He emphasized on convergence and partnership especially on areas of scholarship programs, incentive-giving to board topnotchers and the vision of establishing a School of Medicine.

“We cannot do it alone. We need the right people around… PSU is a partner of the provincial government,” Gov. Guico said.

The governor also laid out his plans to improve the architectural treatment of the province, craft a strategic plan and a new vision and mission (where PSU would help) and the construction of the Pangasinan Eastern to Western Expressway. (PEWEx) for a more efficient mobility.

It can be remembered that during the Governor’s Inaugural speech on June 29, he put premium on the revitalization of the education sector and maximization of partnership with Pangasinan State University for the benefit of the academic community.

Joining the Governor at the Capitol event were Special Assistant and former Board Member Von Mark Mendoza, Provincial Administrator Melicio Patague and Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Baby Ruth Torre. Vice Governor Mark Lambino was represented by Legislative Officer Eunice Valdez.

Also in attendance were the Management Team of PSU to include the Vice Presidents – Dr. Maria Corazon Puzon (Planning and Finance), Dr, Elbert Galas (Administration and Linkages), Dr. Marcelo Gutierrez (Quality Assurance) Dr . Manolito C. Manuel (Academic and Student Affairs), Chief Administrative Officer Dr Ian Evangelista and the Directors for Linkages, Internal Audit, Planning, Research, Presidential Management, Legal Services and Public Relations.

Fostering a cohesive workplace culture, the PSU and the provincial government are one in saying ‘Kung sama-sama, kayang-kaya!”

Mabuhay, Pangasinan State University!

Mabuhay, Province of Pangasinan!
