PSU Bags Gold in 10th Goldilocks ICDC

12743883_1500114916672424_6223288410808549501_nFor the experience and recognition, the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program of PSU deserved some kudos for winning the gold award in the 10th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Deco Challenge (ICDC) last February 25.

With almost 100 participating schools all over the country, PSU qualified in the top 10 finalists who went head-to-head in a live cake decorating competition in a span of five hours in front of a live audience and a panel of judges composed of the leading authorities in the culinary arts industry held at The Block, SM North Edsa, Manila.

PSU Launches 1st Table Tennis Tournament

GHLingayen, Pangasinan – The Sports Development and Physical Education Unit in participation with the Federated Student Government of Pangasinan State University together with the Table Tennis Association of  the Philippines (TATAP) successfully took the wraps off of the first National Table Tennis Tournament held last February 6-7 at the PSU Convention Hall, Lingayen.

The two-day event set off with thrill and exhilaration participated by 400 athletes from different towns of Pangasinan, nearby provinces and other regions as far as Manila to vie in the 11 different categories of the tournament.  The categories were as follows: singles category for the elementary students for both boys and girls from 12 years old and below; 18 years old and below for boys and girls category; singles for men and women in the college level category, men and women singles and doubles non-rank and the executive category for players 38 years old and above.

Della: 2016 PASSAGE Most Outstanding Extensionist

SIR DELLAA  PSU – Sta. Maria researcher, extensionist and IGP participant was awarded as the Most Outstanding Extensionist in the person of Professor Elisa S. Della, based on the result of screening done by the Philippine Association of Agri-vironment Educators and Entrepreneurs, Inc. (PASSAGE) Awards Committee during the 2016 PASSAGE Search for Outstanding Researcher and Outstanding Extensionist last February 4 through the 17th Biennial Convention and International Research Conference at SEARCA, Los Banos, Laguna.

          Della was awarded with a Plaque of Recognition for her exemplary work in extension in promoting the generation of technology as well as the utilization and techno-demonstration of the organic fertilizer by the marginalized farmers, NGOs and POs such as cooperative officers and members in the rural areas.

History of PSU Sta. Maria

On June 12, 1950, the late Congressman Luciano Millan of the 5th (now 6th) Congressional District of Pangasinan worked for the enhancement of R.A. 2430 authorizing the appropriation of P200, 000 for the establishment, operation and maintenance of the Eastern Pangasinan National High School (EPNAS) in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan. After six years of operation, EPNAS was converted into a college with the enactment of R.A. 4178 known as the Eastern Pangasinan Agricultural College (EPAC).
Offered courses then were Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) with specializations in Agronomy and Animal Husbandry; and the two-year Associate Agricultural Technology.
On June 11,1978 the collegiate programs, some members of the faculty and staff, facilities and equipment, and a number of building were formally and legally integrated to the Pangasinan State University(PSU) system by virtue of PD 1497 in the school year 1979-1980 and thus become PSU-Sta. Maria (PSU-SM). The college offered degrees in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture majors in Animal Husbandry, Crop Science, Agricultural Education, Agriculture Economics and Agricultural Extension.
Since it became a component college of the university, PSU-SM was able to realize the construction and installation of more infrastructures: Post Harvest, Capability Building Center, under the leadership of the then University President Reynaldo P. Segui with the political will and commitment of His Excellency Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, Sen. Letecia Ramos-Shahani, Cong. Ranjit R. Shahani and President Assistant Benjamin de Leon.
To date, Sta. Maria Campus’ Bachelor of Science in Agriculture has level III status and is pursuing its Center of Excellence status. Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, Mathematics and TLE has level 1 status as certified by the Accredited Agency of Chartered College and University of the Philippines (AACCUP). The continuous quality education, the technological and research breakthroughs and the community services that the campus is offering to its clientele in the service area are all geared toward the realization of the University goal of achieving its mission for worldwide engagement.

PSU in its Benchmarking cum Team Building

DSC_7994To identify areas for improvement and set targets for institutional developments that reflect the institution’s vision to become an ASEAN Premier State University in 2020, PSU visited Lyceum University of the Philippines (LPU) in Batangas in a benchmarking activity followed by a team building spearheaded by the Planning Office and the Office of the President wherein most of the PSU officials were mandated to join last January 10-12.

          The said benchmarking cum team building activity developed and recognized moments of collaboration and enabled the structured sharing of ideas and good practices on institutional strengths and weaknesses. In this manner, PSU and LPU officials learned together on how they can improve strategy by comparing their respective processes in a highly structured way.
