The library is not just a repository, or a service like any other, or a place for study: it is all these things. Academic and research libraries especially in the field of English language, communication, literature and the like play a crucial role as support for these disciplines. And in order to meet the demands and requirements of digitally working scholars and students, the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Department through the Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides their expertise, resources, training, tools and infrastructure. Books, journals, digital resources like e-books and e-journals, and other reading materials are readily available for the students with the use of Learning Commons, one of the new trends in the library to cater the needs of the millennial who are the most library clients. LED TV and speakers are provided at the Library Audio Visual Room (AVR) for the ABEL students who have speech and literature subjects, and even watch informative and useful videos and tutorials on the essentials of such subjects. The interactive and multi-user-driven library is proving to be a virtual working space and enabling easy access and use for the students.
The life challenges in today’s world require varieties of complex alternatives and solutions. Libraries need to become more open to the input of its users; to become a more participatory environment. Students from the Bachelor of Arts in English language can seamlessly browse from the large collection of resources in online and printed format in all disciplines in the field of English Language. The PSU Library adapts the Integrated Library Systems (ILS) to assist students to search for resources available at the library. These ILS usually comprises a relational database software to interact with the school’s own database, and include acquisitions of resources, cataloging, circulation, serials and online public access catalog or OPAC. Open access, open source and open standards are playing a great role today when we talk about borderless libraries. ABEL students have an easier access to the great wealth of library resources that span the spectrum of formats-books, papers, illustrations, photographs, audio and video recordings, and newspapers.
The library has installed Learning Commons that serves as learning spaces where clienteles can create contents, share information, and use technology for exploration and collaboration. The Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) is also made available to easily locate books and other materials in the library. The university continues to incorporate new ideas and innovations to achieve state of the arts facilities.
The library also hosts programs and activities that encourage participation among students and promote reading, information literacy, and research. Furthermore, the university continually provides training and seminars for librarians and library personnel to keep them abreast of the latest developments in library services and programs.
The university has established linkages with SUCs, other private institutions, government agencies, and international partners to foster collaboration and sharing of best practices. This allows access to a wide array of digital resources and reduces the cost of information.
Through the ISO certification, the library was able to produce a library management process manual which serves as a guidebook that sets the operational standards of the university. It also has its own security system to ensure safe and secure access to the library resources and equipment.
PSU-Bayambang campus continues to bring effective strategies that yield the best results for all its stakeholders.
