Professionalizing early childhood teachers, upgrading early childhood education.

To better equip child development workers and teachers of Early Childhood Education Program (ECEP) with the skills and knowledge needed to adapt in the challenging time, an orientation was attended by 77 ECEP scholars from all over the country, February 23 via zoom platform.

With the theme, โ€œUpgrading Quality of Early Childhood Education through Professional Development Program,โ€ Dr. Razeale G. Resultay, University Director for Curriculum and Instruction spearheaded the said event. Enrollment, online admission, grading system, and the use of Microsoft Teams as well as E-Library are among the topics tackled in the orientation.

Meanwhile, the ECEP scholars are Day Care workers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao who enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education major in Early Childhood Education. The participants of the said virtual orientation are scholars of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council of the Philippines. The ECCD Council is a government agency mandated by Republic Act 10410, or the Early Years Act of 2013, to act as the primary agency supporting the governmentโ€™s ECCD programs that covers health, nutrition, early education, and social services for Children ages 0-4 years.

According to Dr. Resultay, to professionalize the teachers will upgrade the quality of Early Childhood Education. She believes that Professional Development Program is the key to achieve this goal.
โ€œThe focus of the program is to give the teachers enhancement via courses that we offer in the Early Childhood Education,โ€ Dr. Resultay said.

Moreover, โ€œWe believe that this will somehow capacitate our Daycare workers more so that some of our Daycare workers are not Education graduates. By enrolling in the program, they would gain knowledge as well as abilities and experience on Early Childhood Education,โ€ Dr. Resultay added.
