PSU GRADUATE SCHOOL HISTORY
The Graduate School of the Pangasinan State University (PSU-GS) originated from the programs of the then Central Luzon Teachers College (CLTC) as the only tertiary
education component then, the former Bayambang Normal School (BNS) in 1922, the
Pangasinan Normal School (PNS) in 1948, and now PSU-Bayambang Campus.
The PSU-GS had a humble beginning. It started in 1961, six (6) years after the offering of the four-year teacher education program in 1954 by virtue of R.A. # 975. In 1982,
the doctoral program of the University was first offered at PSU-Bayambang Campus,
with its teacher education program as the center. In 1987, with the University’s
desire to expand its graduate program, four (4) centers were created. These were
located at PSU-Bayambang, PSU-Lingayen, PSU-Sta. Maria, and PSU-Urdaneta, with the latter as its central office. The following year, the masteral program of PSU-Sta.
Maria was transferred to PSU-Urdaneta. Thus, there were only three centers then
in 1988 to 1994. In 1994, with the concept to centralize and to maximize the resources of the University, all graduate programs were centralized in PSU-Graduate School,
Urdaneta City.
At present, the PSU-GS offers five (5) degree programs, namely: Doctor of Education
(Ed. D.), Master of Arts in Education (MAED), Master in Development Management (MDM),
Master of Science in Agriculture (MS Agriculture, Master in Management Engineering
(MME), and Master in Aquaculture (MSA). The Ed. D. program offers three (3) major
fields of specialization: Educational Management, Mathematics Education, and Guidance
and Counseling. On the other hand, the MAED program has 11 areas of specialization
as follows: Educational Management, Communication Arts-English, Communication Arts-Filipino,
Science Education, Mathematics Education, Social Studies, Guidance and Counseling,
Special Education (SPED), Technology and Home Economics, Instructional Leadership,
and Computer Education. The MDM program also offers two (2) areas of specialization:
Public Management and Local Government and Regional Administration Management; while the MS Agriculture offers two (2) major fields of specialization : Crop Science
and Animal Science.
Today, due to the increasing enrolment in the GS, a satellite campus was established
in Bayambang with two programs offered during the 1st semester 2009. These are;
Master of Arts in Nursing and Master of Arts in Education, majors in Early Childhood
Education, Reading and Science Education. This was envisioned to expand the GS service
areas and ultimately to cater to the needs of the nursing graduates of PSU-Bayambang
and the nearby towns of Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, La Union and the Ilocos Region.
